Berkey Water Systems are all essentially the same, just different capacities and materials. The soul of the units are the Black Berkey purification elements. The requirement to be qualified as an actual Purifier, not just a filter, is to be proven to remove 99.999 % of pathogenic bacteria and 99.99 % of viruses. If you used 3 gallons a day, 365 days a year that would mean your Black Berkey elements would last you between 5 and 6 years. You can do the math. In that scenario, your pure water would cost you $28 per year. They require minimal cleaning and repriming.

The Big Berkey® Water system will provide 1-4 people with delicious, purified drinking water. This system comes with 2 Black Berkey purification elements . It can utilize up to 4 Black Berkey purification elements for faster filtration. The Unit housing is made of highly polished, AISI 304 stainless steel.

Black Berkey ® Purification Elements (set of 2)
The Black Berkey ® Purification Elements come as a set of two. They can be added to any of the above units to utililze 4 elements for faster filtration. They can also be purchased as replacements, or to have an extra set on hand. This is the Soul of the Berkey Water System. They use a proprietary formula based on Micro-filtration and will produce purified water. They are Third party tested by State and EPA accredited laboratories to exceed NSF/ANSI Standard 53 by reducing >99.99 % of contaminants including; Bacteria, Viruses, Pesticides, Herbicides, Heavy metals, Chloramine, turbidity, foul odors and tastes. There are over 200 known contaminants that the Black Berkeys significantly reduce!
Each Element is capable of purifiying 3000 gallons of water. That's 6000 gallons per set of two. The recommended replacement is at 6 years. That's alot of water for pennies a gallon!
