Note for 2023:  I am proud to have have been selling Schroeckenfux scythe equipment since 2006. I consider these scythes to be an essential tool for the future of small-scale regenerative agriculture (i.e. no-till,  sustainable, permaculture, natural farming, etc.). FUX Haying Blade Scythe Outfits

The FUX 2010 scythe blade is a great blade for advanced scythers, for mowing prime hayfields and lawns. Not so good for thick thatch or extremely bumpy fields. You can see it in action in this video. It would be challenging, however, for a complete beginner. Beginners are better off starting out with a Gartensense outfit.

50cm FUX light Bush Blade

Highly recommended for big weeds! Every scyther should have one of these in their arsenal. These light bush blades have tang angles set to be interchangeable on the Fux wooden snath. Short, stiff, and sturdy. Great for thick-stemmed grasses, weeds, brambles, and tree seedlings. Having one on hand for tougher mowing situations, can spare your grass blade of a lot of wear and tear. (Bush blades are not sharpened by peening, usually. They're usually sharpened by first honing with an artificial stone, or a mill-file, followed by a medium grit natural stone. Cheesebrough Flex-Frame Hayrake

Peening Kits

All our scythe blades (except for the bush blades), need to be resharpened by peening the edge with a scythe hammer and anvil, and then dressing the edge with a whetstone. My 1SR Premium Picard Peening Kits below include two strips of sheet metal for worry-free practice, before attempting to peen your scythe blade.

I recommend that you order one of the kits below with your scythe outfit.

5/8 inch thick with chamfered edges. USA. 400 grit. Formulated to specifications by knife blade and American scythe expert, Benjamin Bouchard. "ANSI 400 grit synthetic blue sapphires in a medium-hard ceramic bond. Formulated to cut quickly and resist glazing, but also leaves a finer than typical finish relative to its grit rating. The finish it leaves is more typical of 1000 grit stones". Best when paired with the Bull Thistle or the Bergamo, for setting a scratch pattern. Seeds

Sepp Holzer rye seed

100 grams of Sepp Holzer's "Siberian rye" seed. Secale cerale var. multicaule. Also known as Waldstaundenroggen in Germany. This is the rye that Sepp Holzer writes about in his books, “The Rebel Farmer”and “Sepp Holzer’s Permaculture”. My seed comes from his stock. In his books he says that in 1957, he saw an ad in an Austrian hunting magazine for an ancient Siberian rye that was a great grazing plant for wild game. It was very expensive, so he only ordered 1 kilogram and grew it out for seed. He was very happy with it, and has been selecting and breeding it ever since. It makes a great pioneer plant for newly disturbed areas. Grazing animals love it. Once established, it can be grazed or mown for several years, before allowing it to head out and set seed. Setting in back by grazing or mowing, makes it tiller and regrow bigger, and increases the final yield. The straw is 2 to 2.5 meters high and is strong. It is useful for animal bedding, crafts, and for straw mattresses. The grain makes wonderful bread. Once it sets seed, its lifecycle is finished and you can plant a different crop. 100g = approx. 6000 seeds. For more info see webpage.
